Haldi and mehndi are the most relaxed, colourful functions of an Indian wedding. A little planning keeps them joyful rather than chaotic.
Décor
Think marigold and jasmine garlands, colourful umbrellas, low seating with bolsters and plenty of shade for daytime functions.
Mehndi artists
Plan one artist for every 8–10 guests who want mehndi, plus a senior artist for the bride's bridal design (4–6 hours).
Music
Dholis, folk singers or a live band of Bollywood classics keep energy high without overpowering conversation.
Menu
Live chaat counters, fresh juices and finger food work best — guests with mehndi on their hands will thank you.
Practical touches
- Keep old towels and slippers ready for haldi guests.
- Protect outfits with a colour-safe changing area.
- Schedule photos before the haldi begins.
